Kelly and Ula

Not one but two Mirka Bridal wedding dresses at one beautiful wedding.

Ula wore a custom version of our Skye dress and Kelly chose a With Love, Mirka wedding dress, Grace, for their Scottish seaside wedding.

How would you describe your Mirka Bridal Couture experience?

Kelly - I felt relaxed and assured the dress would be perfect for me. Mirka was a perfectionist and made sure to listen to every detail that I wished for.

Ula - I felt very taken care of, Mirka was very helpful throughout the process.

Which dress did you wear and how did you know it was “The One”?

Ula - I wanted something that was freeing and elegant. I wanted that boho style but with an edge and the custom dress Mirka made hit it on the head for me! I ended up wearing a hat with my dress which suited my style perfectly. It just made me feel like myself with an added elegance and edge.

Kelly - I wore Grace from the 2023 collection. The most special thing about it was that it wasn’t finished yet and I got to see pieces of the dress added on as Mirka crafted it from scratch.

It was a very special experience for me. Even though I didn’t see the final result straight away - I loved the structure of the dress, the boning, the lace pattern, the corset style made me feel powerful.

The detachable sleeves I felt was very modern and effortless. I felt overall that the dress was very ‘me.’ It also had a sexy element to it too which I loved.

How did you accesorise your dress?

Kelly - I loved the earrings the model wore for Grace dress shoot and I wanted the same effect. The earrings were handcrafted floral earrings by Debbie Carlisle. I felt the rose gold earrings really complimented the nude corset sections of the Grace dress. I tried the earrings on with the dress and it just clicked.

Ula - I found MeMe London earrings that worked so well with my dress. They were gold with a little white pearl. I always liked the look of an edgy hat and so during the last few weeks of fittings - Mirka suggested to bring a few hats that I liked. I brought 2 different variations of beige from Accessories London. She customised the hats by adding lace fabrics (the same lace from my dress) and added them onto the hat. I couldn’t stop smiling - it was exactly what I was envisioning. That elegant and edgy look that was so me!

How did you feel in your dress on the day?

Ula - I felt unique, cool, comfortable, special. I could move, I would dance, raise my arms up, eat, and laugh! I felt like me but on an elevated level. I just felt free!

Kelly - I felt calm, sexy and light. I spun around and danced all night. I could hug people tightly, move around easily and party. I didn’t feel like that typical feeling we all know too well (I can’t wait to take this dress off/bra off feeling). I would have easily slept in it. The corset gave me good posture, it sort of lifted me up and held me to walk elegantly and hold myself up straighter. I felt a bit like a princess in all honesty.

What was your biggest wedding inspiration?

Ula - I love the water so getting to spend some time with Kelly at the beach with the sun was shining was like a dream. We had the beach to ourselves - it was like we had gone on a mini beach trip on our wedding day.

Kelly - We both wanted a bohemian type of vibe. Though the venue wasn’t completely bohemian - we brought these elements with our decor, dresses, and energy. The dresses were a huge part in creating that atmosphere for us and our guests. Though we didn’t have the outdoor garden for the ceremony (due to the unfortunate Scottish rain!) we didn’t let that affect our day. Instead, when it cleared up… we went off to the beach barefoot, holding our dresses and dipping our toes in the sea. I think, in retrospect, our wedding inspiration was that feeling of freedom. The freedom to be us, to be ourselves, and just enjoy being in the present moment at the beach.

What is your favourite picture from your wedding day and why is this image so special to you?

Kelly - For me, it’s the picture of us running towards the ocean, holding hands, Ula holding onto her hat. Our hair is just floating in the air. The movement in our dresses. The effortless of the dresses. You can see how comfortable and free we feel. You can’t see our faces in some of these shots- but you can sense the joy. I know we are smiling and laughing. That sort of child like gleeful, laugh and giggle that children have when they are running around in nature.

Ula - It’s hard to choose just one but I would say that I loved seeing the photos of us embracing each other, the close ups of our hands, the rings, the kiss on the cheek. Those moments were really special to look back on. Pictures of me and my family, and Kelly’s family are also very special. We are so blessed to have all the love and support from our loved ones. It means so much to us to have everyone there that we love to celebrate our day with us.

Finally, do you have any advice for future brides visiting Mirka Bridal Couture?

Kelly - Just be open and honest about your vision. If you don’t know what that is - don’t worry. I didn’t know either at first. Mirka is great at giving you options and examples. Ask lots of questions, show inspiration pictures, ideas. This is your special day so own it and go after what you envision and hope for!

Ula - I would 100 percent recommend going in for a consultation with Mirka Bridal, try on dresses, even dresses you never thought you’d go for.  We planned on going to many different places to try dresses on and Mirka was our first, and unsurprisingly, we didn’t go anywhere else after. We just knew that it was right for us.
