Our Face Mask Adventure

As you will all be aware 2020 has been an extremely difficult year, especially for small business like ourselves. Due to the uncertainty that surrounded us, there were many adjustments that we had to make to our day-to-day operations. These adjustments enabled us to survive and grow as a business whilst supporting many others who were also facing hardship.

In April 2020, the team at Mirka Bridal Couture turned their efforts to the production of fabric face masks.

Which turned out to be a great success, and before we knew it, we were shipping our face masks worldwide! Some locations which we shipped to included Spain, Italy, Ireland, U.S.A. and even Australia!

As the interest in our face mask collection continued to grow, Mirka decided to start a line of bespoke wedding face masks, offering a luxury and detailed finish. Some of the bridal masks were made using French lace whilst others had a hint of sparkle through the use of Swarovski crystals. Mirka also decided to offer more subtle looks which were made from soft sheen satin in the shades of white and ivory. One of our lovely masks even featured in ‘Tie the Knot Scotland’ - a famous Scottish wedding magazine!

Since the mask business was so prosperous, Mirka decided to give a little back to the local community. That’s why, Mirka Bridal Couture decided to collaborate with Laila Lettering. Together, we came up with a new range of face masks known as the smile masks. For each face mask that was sold within the smile range, we donated a children’s face mask to the oncology ward in Edinburgh, who were seeking material face masks for children and their families. Through this amazing collaboration, we were able to help children in the oncology ward stay safe!

Later on, in the year we also decided to donate a large number of masks to the Polish School in Kirkcaldy which were used in their Christmas parcels. For this, we received a lovely thank you certificate which is proudly framed in our salon.

As a family business we started a tradition some years ago of donating money every year to buy Christmas Dinners for homeless. That’s why we also decided to run a face mask sale on our website, from which all profits were donated directly to social bite – a café which bases its work around homelessness issues. We managed to raise an outstanding £219, which provided over 40 dinners for homeless people at Christmas in 2020.

We were absolutely delighted to have been able to make such a big difference to our local community as a small family-owned business. Seeing people come together during such hard times felt really rewarding and provided us with much hope for the future.

With Love, Mirka Bridal Couture.
