Stephanie & Douglas

Scottish countryside wedding in the tranquil and picturesque village of Charlestown near Dunfermline.

Stephanie wore a dress inspired by our floral Lucy gown and customised with many personal touches to make it a unique design.

How would you describe your Mirka Bridal Couture experience?

My mum, mother in law and bridesmaid and I were welcomed warmly by Mirka and her assistant on our first appointment and Mirka’s shop radiated warmth. From the first appointment I felt I fully trusted in Mirka’s talent and expertise. I wanted some elements from a couple of her existing designs and nothing seemed too much for Mirka to accommodate in the design of my dress.

Which dress did you wear and how did you know it was 'The One'?

I had seen the Lucy dress online and loved it, but when I tried it on there were some areas I wanted to change to flatter my body shape and Mirka was more than happy to help me expand on my ideas such as widening the straps and adding removable sleeves. It was when I realised how approachable and willing to listen to my ideas she was, I knew I wanted her to make my dress.

How did you find the process of having a dress made to measure and custimised to you?

I’ve never had anything made to measure before, and Mirka made it so easy and comfortable. Her talent for dress making and design was obvious the minute I started trying on dresses. I always felt special in her shop during the process of going in for fittings and I trusted her opinion and skill from the first fitting.

How did you come up with the idea for the veil?

The veil was so important to me and I was so happy that Mirka was able to make it a reality. I actually got the idea from Gwen Stefani who got married in July 2021 and had hers, her husband’s and her children’s names embroidered on the veil in huge letters. I’m a huge Gwen fan and as soon as I saw this I knew I wanted it for my wedding, but maybe a little more subtle! So I had our names and our dog Memphis’ name on mine.

What was your biggest wedding inspiration?

Us! I wanted to have nods to mine and Dougie’s relationship through the years to inspire almost every aspect of the day.

For example the table names were places we’ve visited together, the playlist for before and after the ceremony was all songs that mean something to us in one way or another, I walked down the aisle to a very specific song I chose years ago because it relates to us, the decor and flowers were autumnal themed (including crochet pumpkins!) because it’s our favourite season, the food was all vegan, and of course our names were on my veil.

What is your favourite picture from your wedding day and why is this image so special to you?

I’m still waiting for all our pictures to come back from the photographer, but from the ones we have just now it’s this one. We don’t have many photos of just the three of us so it’s nice to finally have one and we all look so happy I just love it.

Finally, do you have any advice for future brides visiting Mirka Bridal Couture?

Go in with an open mind, try on dresses you think you won’t suit, ask questions and throw ideas around, don’t take it too seriously and have fun.
